We were overjoyed with last month’s participation between Red Ribbon Week, Girl Talk Lunches, the Mental Health Speaker Assembly, the FAFSA Lunch-and-Learn and all of the fun homecoming and recruitment week activities, plus testing for the PSAT and PREACT!
We are proud of our students that earned leadership positions last month. Sophomore Cecily Shield will be representing our school at the Hugh O’Brien Leadership (HOBY) conference this summer and our new Youth Leadership Southeast Texas students include freshmen: Ethan Gravis, Brooke Hall, Eshal Jasani, and Arryana Lyon, with Hannah Holmes as alternate. These YLSET students will be added to our youth alumni team to attend a conference this month and work on a year long service project that will be presented to other local high schools and businesses in May.
Also this month, we will host our second Career Spotlight on the 13th! Encourage your son or daughter to stop by to learn more about the career of a Game Warden or Restaurant Franchisee!
This month we are continuing to host college reps from universities as well as assisting students with college applications. We are thrilled with the students stopping by to let us know when they are accepted, which college they are choosing to enroll, and what scholarships they are earning. Please remind them to update Naviance frequently with application statuses and check the scholarship list weekly for new opportunities! The Advancement office will post our student’s pennant pics once they decide on their college of enrollment, so send them by the counseling office to take their pic when they make their college decision. Check the school social media sites for these pics on Fridays!
Mark your calendars for the Parent Awareness Symposium (PAwS) on Wednesday, November 14 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the I.C. This is an adults only event where local professionals talk about the parenting tips you most want to learn more about. Thank you to all who offered your feedback on our survey last week. As of time of this publication the top choices include:
Finally, we will close with a Technology Lunch-and-Learn which will highlight specifically tech teen use on Friday, November 30 from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
We count you all as our blessings and pray God’s peace, joy and love to you over our upcoming Thanksgiving holiday break. May we all come back rested and rejuvenated to finish strong at the end of the semester!
Your MKCHS Counseling Team,
Mrs. Wulf, Mrs. Clayton & Mrs. Valdez
