December Counselor Newsletter 2019
Over Thanksgiving, we gave thanks for each of our students and families. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our school community and look forward to helping every student finish out the semester strong!
As of December 3, we have 74 seniors with college applications in and we will be meeting with each of them one-on-one this week for assistance. We encourage our seniors to complete their FAFSA and apply for scholarships at the universities they are applying to along with all the other scholarships posted in Naviance. The College Board just released scholarship opportunities for juniors and seniors and we’ve posted that information as well. Deadlines are often at the beginning of January and the money runs out! We encourage you to read through the College Prep Handbook timelines for juniors and seniors to make sure you are taking care of everything for each month. https://mkchs.com/academics/counseling-office/
Mark your calendars now for our spring parent meetings:
Junior Class – Thursday, January 23, 6 p.m. Café
Sophomore Class – Thursday, February 13, 6 p.m. Café
Freshman Class – Tuesday, March 3, 6 p.m. Café
Individual course scheduling conferences for 2020-2021
will take place the weeks following each class meeting.
PSAT scores have been released to us and Mrs. Valdez has added them to 9th & 11th grade Naviance accounts. Score reports will be released to students from the College Board via email next week. We will give out paper copies at the parent meetings and go over all of the resources available online. We are still waiting to hear about the PreACT score release and will share that information when we get it.

The Peer Counselors will lead our students in a school-wide fall guidance activity on Tuesday, December 10. Students will make a paper chain of kindness. Each student will make a pledge on how they will show kindness as we begin this Advent season. Once complete, Peer Counselors will display around campus for all to be reminded of how kindness is vital in our everyday lives.Â
