August 2019 Counselor Connection
Howdy! Ahoy! Aloha! Welcome back Bulldog Families! We have had a very happy and busy beginning to the school year. We’ve set up all our new students in Naviance and completed all the freshman year tasks for college and career. If you’ve not logged in yet, we encourage freshmen parents to see what your son or daughter has entered for their goals and see the beginning of their first high school resume. Also, you may be interested to see their learning style and multiple intelligences reports!
We are thankful for all of the senior parents who came out to the counseling meeting to review the college application process. We will be visiting senior Theology classes this week to go over these instructions again and then follow up with one-on-one meetings with seniors as needed for support. Our goal is to have every senior with a college app in Naviance this fall!
Next month we will travel to a few counselor college workshops and our college reps begin visiting campus; see Naviance for all of our important dates. We will also work with our juniors and sophomores next month in Naviance during Theology classes. Our counseling Calendar of Events can be found on the Academics Tab of the website under the Counseling drop down menu. Be sure to check out all the resources in our College Prep Handbook and feel free to ask us questions during the year via email or school telephone.
Finally, we are thrilled to introduce two new members of our Counseling Team this year, Mrs. Sheree’ Downs, Special Needs Director, and Mrs. Bobette Revia, Interventionist. Get to know them below:
Mrs. Sheree’ Broussard Downs is a graduate of West Brook High School with a Bachelor’s Degree from Lamar University in Kinesiology and a Master’s in Administration also from Lamar University. Sheree’ says she is looking forward to sharing the educational and spiritual journeys with the students at Kelly!
Mrs. Bobette Revia says she is so very grateful to be with us this year. Her educational background includes a B.S. Degree in Education from North Texas State University and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Lamar University. Her work experience includes many wonderful years working with students as their guidance counselor at Vidor High School. Helping your student to become their “best self”, both educationally and personally, is her ultimate goal. It is also her goal to become a contributing and helpful member of the counseling team here at Kelly. She says she looks forward to meeting you folks and please let her know if she can be of assistance to you.
