The MKCHS Counseling Team has been busy preparing documents for our seniors applying to college, visiting freshmen and senior classrooms to guide students through Naviance lessons on learning styles, resume creation, goal-setting, career readiness and college planning. We have attended a few college admissions and testing workshops, welcomed college reps, and hosted our first college fair! MKCHS’ senior internship program was updated and our office is receiving insightful feedback from the internship sponsors that our students are working hard in the community learning workforce readiness skills.
September 10 was the official mid-quarter progress report date; new families, please note that we do not send paper progress reports home. Log into your Portal to view your student’s grades. We recommend following up with the teacher first via email or office phone if you have any concerns. Face-to-face conferences with the student and teacher are helpful ways to build positive relationships, make educational goals and problem solve for new ways toward success.
This month, we will begin administering the annual freshmen class survey and following up with a one-on-one counseling conference after their class retreat to help ensure they are having a smooth transition to high school. We will also visit sophomore and junior classrooms for Naviance presentations. Another exciting event is our first Career Spotlight in conjunction with the Alumni office to highlight potential career pathways and cultivate meaningful relationships with our Kelly Alumni.
The Yellow Ribbon Club will be addressing National Suicide Week this month, so you will see lots of yellow around campus. The Peer Counseling team is preparing for Red Ribbon Week next month and there will be another special dress day with the color red. We will finish out September with our first annual sophomore class field trip to the Youth Solutions Career Expo at Ford Park.
Exciting things are happening in the Counseling office this fall. We appreciate your support!
