September 2019 Counselor Connection
Mrs. Wulf & Mrs. Clayton attended college workshops for A&M, LU & UT last week. If your son or daughter is applying there please have them check in with the counselors for updated application and financial aid information. The counselors have met with senior students one-on-one to update Naviance and 19 of our 102 seniors have applied! Our goal is to have everyone with at least one application submitted before Christmas break. If you need assistance helping your sons or daughters apply, please meet with your counselor this fall. The FAFSA workshop at Kelly will be October 23rd during lunches so mark your calendar!
Counselors will be meeting with juniors this week and sophomores the following week to update Naviance and work on college and career goals. Our sophomore field trip forms to the Southeast Texas Career Expo are due to Mrs. Wulf by this Thursday, September 12th. No late forms will be expected due to arrangements needing to be made for buses and chaperones. All students must be eligible in Rank One to attend. Contact Mrs. Vernon for Rank One questions: AVernon@mkchs.com
This month we have invited students to the Southeast Texas College Fair at LU Thursday night at the Rec Center from 6-8 p.m. See the link for more details! Also, we have college rep visits from the Savanah College of Art & Design, Houston Baptist University, St. Edward’s University, the University of Arizona, Sam Houston University, and Lamar University. All students are welcome to sign up in Naviance and meet with reps! Parents are welcome too, but you must check in at the office first.
We are also excited to collaborate with the Advancement & Alumni Offices this month for our first Breakfast with a Boss on September 26th. This new event is replacing our previous Career Spotlight lunches. More information to come!
Finally, we will have our first ASVAB informational meeting September 30th for those students wanting to take another career interest inventory and especially for those students interested in the military. Contact Mrs. Clayton for more information!
Now that our first progress report period has passed, if your student is struggling, be sure to have him or her reach out to the teacher for support, attend tutorials, or meet with our Interventionist Mrs. Bobette Revia for more assistance: BRevia@mkchs.com
Our counseling Calendar of Events can be found on the Academics tab of the website under the Counseling drop-down menu. Be sure to check out all the resources in our College Prep Handbook and feel free to ask us questions during the year via email or school telephone. We are eager to provide valuable counseling services to all of our students!
