A lot of our ministry plans were thrown off, like so many others during the month of September. The silver lining was seeing our students and entire Kelly Community respond with positivity and resilience in the face of disaster.
When I spoke to students about service hours, I mentioned that we never know when we may need charity ourselves. Many of us found that out during Harvey. My final message to students about service was that Christians should be formed in such a way that they instinctively reach out to those in need.
During the crisis, our students were phenomenal at reaching out. They have been on rescue crews, working with Catholic Charities and Red Cross, cleaning up at school and in their neighborhoods. They wanted to help. That is a credit to how they have been raised by their parents, and their experiences in their faith communities and schools.
We are blessed with an amazing school community. If you have any needs following Harvey, where a team of kids and staff could be useful, please let me know. We continue to partner with Catholic Charities as well.
I would like to share our Faith Theme t-shirts with you. They were designed by senior Emily Hale. She did a fantastic job and spent much of her summer working through different drafts. These last few weeks have clearly shown us the importance of being “Built on Rock”.
In Christ,
Blake Krause
