Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Kelly,
Live broadcast of Basketball games – Kelly recently installed a special camera system in the gym to be able to partner with the National High School Federation’s broadcasting program which allows events held in the gym to be viewed live via internet. Elsewhere in this newsletter is information about the program and how to subscribe.
Seniors will be traveling Wednesday, November 7 to the Texas Renaissance Festival. The English Department sponsors this trip each year to ‘bring alive’ some of the literature that the students are reading in the English 4 British Literature course.
The Sophomore Retreat is Thursday, November 8 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Beaumont. Students should report directly to St. Jude Church at 8:00 A.M. and will be dismissed from there at 3:00 P.M. A Kelly bus will transport any student who is not able to provide their own transportation.
2nd Athletic Fee reminder: It was announced last spring that starting this year, Kelly would implement an additional $250 athletic fee for a 2nd (or more) sport. The Athletic Fee was introduced about ten (10) years ago and hasn’t been changed since it began. The School Board researched what some of our peer schools are charging and found that every school charges significantly higher tuition than Kelly. Most schools also charge higher and/or multiple athletic fees. After considering various options, Kelly’s School Board chose to add a 2nd fee for students/families participating in a 2nd sport; however no additional fees will be charged for a 3rd or more sport(s).
On Tuesday, November 13 during lunches, Kelly will host alumnus Raj Ataya for another Career Spotlight for our students. Mr. Ataya will speak and answer questions about being a Game Warden and an entrepreneur.
Our next Parent Awareness Seminar (PAWS) will be on Wednesday, November 14, 6:00-7:00 P.M. Mrs. Wulf conducted a parent survey asking about current parental concerns and is planning the program based upon the survey results. Please see the details in the Counselors Corner portion of this newsletter.
Thanksgiving Holiday this year is November 19-23. Friday, November 16 will be a full school day.
Blessings,
Roger S. Bemis
