Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Kelly,
Happy Easter Season! During the 7 weeks of Easter we remember the resurrection of Christ, His presence here on earth after His crucifixion, His ascension to the Father and the Holy Spirit descending upon the disciples and upon each of us. May we each become more aware of God’s presence in our lives during this Easter season.
Elsewhere in this newsletter is a copy of the 2017-18 school year calendar for the Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Beaumont. We have placed a copy on our school website as well.
MKCHS’s annual Spring Into Action Day is Friday, April 28. All students and staff, as well as many parent volunteers, will spend the day performing service for churches, charities, and other non-profits in our community. A huge thank-you to Melanie Heartfield, the parent coordinator of this event, as well as staff members Mikki Sciba and April Vernon for all their efforts in preparing for and organizing Spring Into Action Day.
AP testing begins Monday, May 1 and lasts two (2) weeks. The schedule for the AP tests is attached.
MKCHS will hold the annual Awards Program on Tuesday, May 2 beginning at 6:00 pm. Many awards and scholarships will be given that evening. Wednesday, May 3, at 7:30 am will be the annual Awards Breakfast. Students who received an Outstanding Class Award will be recognized. Both programs will be held in the Centennial Complex.
All-School Mass has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 4 at 9:20am. Please join us.
The Spring Band Concert will be on Tuesday, May 9 at 6:30pm. Join us to hear St. Anne’s band and Kelly’s band in their final performance of the year. A real treat is to hear the St. Anne beginners and see how far they have come in only one school year- considering that when they began in August, they didn’t even know which instrument they were going to play!
Final Exams for Seniors will be Monday – Thursday, May 15 – 18. Exams will take place during their regular class time. On Friday, May 19, Graduation practice will be held in the Centennial Complex at 10:00 am and the Baccalaureate Mass will be at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica at 7:00 pm. Graduation will be Saturday, May 20, 4:00 pm at the Beaumont Civic Center.
Friday, May 19 will be a 12:20 pm dismissal for the staff end-of-the-year luncheon and to allow teachers to complete exam preparations.
Exams for 9th – 11th graders will be Monday – Wednesday, May 22-24. May 24 is the final school day and report cards will be produced and mailed on Thursday or Friday.
Reduced Summer Hours will begin on Thursday, May 25. The summer office hours are listed elsewhere in this newsletter.
On Tuesday, May 23 beginning at 5:30 in the IC (library), doctors will provide physicals for any student who desires one. Cost is $10.00 cash. A physical and medical history is required every year for every student. Although you may certainly obtain a physical elsewhere, this session is meant to be a service and convenience for everyone. If you obtain a physical elsewhere, the TAPPS Physical form must be used. The TAPPS Physical and Medical history form will be available through Rank One shortly. Instructions to access these forms will be sent to all families via e-mail when they are available.
Blessings,
Roger S. Bemis
