Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Kelly HS,
After a very smooth beginning to the school year, we find ourselves already half way through the 1st grading quarter. Parents, if you don’t know how to check your child’s grades on the Parent Portal, please contact the Counselors’ Office. Not only can you check grades, but attendance and demerit records as well. It’s a great tool that provides a very easy way to e-mail teachers if you have any questions or concerns. Report Cards will be coming out the 2nd week of Oct. Be sure to check portal so there are no surprises!
Thank you to all who attended our Open House on Sept. 6. Over 200 parents participated and had the opportunity to meet teachers and hear a brief description of classes and their expectations.
You may have noticed Kelly HS did not hold the Tailgate Dinner, Dance, & Auction this fall as in years past. It was a very labor-intensive event and the financial return had been decreasing the last couple of years. Instead, we will be holding a school-wide raffle. We are asking every student to sell at least 20 tickets at $5.00 each. The grand prize is a new Polaris All-Terrain Vehicle. Other prizes include a 55” HDTV and a “Fitbit” fitness watch. The raffle will begin today, September 13 and go through October 28, when the winners will be drawn at halftime of the Senior Night football game.
On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Diocese of Beaumont will celebrate its 50th anniversary as a Diocese. Sixteen Bishops and Cardinal DiNardo from Houston will be joining us for a Mass and reception at Ford Park beginning at 4 pm. All are invited to join in the celebration.
Homecoming is fast approaching and there will be some changes in our activities this year. In place of the parade and bonfire, we will be hosting a homecoming “Block Party” on Wed., Sept. 28, 6 pm, at Kelly HS. Kelly organizations, as well as groups from our feeder schools, will join in a big celebration in our parking lot (weather permitting) and it will be followed be by our community pep rally in Bulldog stadium. At the game on Friday, Sept. 30, there will be a number of classes returning for reunions and a special Alumni Tailgate for any alumni able to join us. See our website, mkchs.com, for information about Homecoming activities.
Football and Volleyball are in full swing. Come out for a game to cheer on the Bulldogs. Check the school calendar for game times and locations.
Part of the mission of Kelly HS is the development of our students’ spiritually. We offer various activities toward that end; it is much more likely to be successful if we work with parents toward this goal.
May you each recognize God’s blessings in your life and the importance of sharing those blessings with others.
In His Name,
Roger S. Bemis
Principal
