Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Kelly,
Welcome Back. I hope everyone had a peace-filled and restful holiday break.
As you may have seen in social media, Mr. James Ashby has been named the new Athletic Director for Kelly HS. He will continue with his Athletic Trainer duties as well. His long history with MKCHS and its sports programs, his love of the school, and his overview of all sports as Athletic Trainer, I believe, make him an excellent choice. I look forward to working with him even more closely. Ms. Desmarais will continue to serve as Athletic Director for Girls’ Sports.
I have received a number of resumes/applications for the head football coach position. We will be reviewing those later this week and will then move forward with interviewing, hopefully in the next week or so. My goal is to announce the new coach in early February.
ML King Day is Monday, Jan. 16. Kelly HS and all the Catholic Schools in the Diocese will be closed in observation.
The first HS Placement Test for 2017-18 freshmen will be Saturday, Jan. 21 beginning at 8:00 am in the Café. All students interested in entering Kelly HS next year as freshmen are expected to take this test. The results are used, along with Middle School grades and other Standardized Test results, to aid us in the acceptance and course placement process. The test will be offered again in February in case Jan. 21 is not convenient. Please contact Taylor Henderson, Kelly HS’s Admissions Director, (thenderson@mkchs.com) to register.
On Wednesday, Jan. 11, the Counseling Office will hold the Registration Meeting for current juniors and their parents. At this meeting, information concerning the registration process for next year, course selections as well as basic information about the college admission process will be covered. Individual appointment times for students, parents and the Counselor will be distributed. The meetings for current sophomores will be Jan. 26 and for current freshmen on Feb. 7. All meetings will begin at 6:00 pm and be held in the cafeteria.
We are in the midst of the Basketball and Soccer seasons. Please check the School’s Master Calendar for the schedules. Come on out to cheer on the Bulldogs!
Softball, Baseball and Track will begin their seasons near the end of the month and will begin competing in mid to late February.
Kelly HS’s Blue Cross Club will hold their annual blood drive on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 8:00 am to 3:15 pm in the Dance room. Students must be at least 16 yrs. old to give blood and must have the proper permission form signed and returned. Parents may stop by to give blood too. Contact Ms. Yoder at cyoder@mkchs.com for more information. Give the gift of Life!
TWIRP Week will be Jan. 23-28. This week will include special dress days as well as a few suggested evening activities. The TWIRP Dance will be Saturday, Jan. 28 from 8:00 pm -11:00 pm in the Black Box Theater.
Catholic Schools Week will be held Jan. 29 – Feb. 4 across the United States. Dioceses around the country will be celebrating the wonderful ministry of Catholic Education. Here at Kelly HS, we will have special activities each day beginning with a Parent Appreciation Prayer Service on Monday, Jan. 29 at 9:15 am. I want to invite all parents who are able to attend as we acknowledge the commitment and investment you have chosen to make in order to provide Catholic Education for your son or daughter.
Good Luck to the Kelly Dance Force as they travel to Southern California Jan. 12 – 16. They will be participating in different workshops led by dance professionals in the Los Angeles area and performing at Disneyland. Please pray for a safe trip for all involved.
In His Name,
Roger S. Bemis
Principal
