Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Kelly,
We are back to business and normal functioning after Harvey. I have been so tremendously impressed with the assistance so many in our community have extended, and continue extending, to those in need. Many are still assisting in neighborhoods, at Catholic Charities and with other organizations. We have certainly been a community of God and His presence in our area!
KHS Open House has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 19. This is also report card night. You will be able to obtain your child’s 1st quarter grades as well as meet with teachers between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. At 5:30pm we will have a short meeting in the café and then dismiss parents to visit with teachers and learn about their courses.
The superintendent has requested a waiver for the ten (10) instructional days missed due to Harvey. If granted, we will not be changing the school year calendar.
The Drama Department will present its fall production, “Game of Tiaras”, on Thursday, October 4, Saturday, October 6 and Monday, October 8. Please see their flyer in this newsletter.
Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society) and The National Honor Society will induct their new members this month. Mu Alpha Theta will hold its Induction on Tuesday, October 10 at 6:30pm. The NHS Induction will be the following Monday, October 16 at 6:00pm. Both will be held in the café.
Kelly HS will administer the PSAT on Wednesday, October 11. All 9th, 10th, & 11th graders should report at 8:15am as usual. The test will be administered and then the students will be dismissed for the day. Dismissal will be about 11:30am. This test is used to prepare students for the SAT, to provide the counselors with additional information about a student’s academic strengths and weaknesses, and to provide students with information about possible vocations and/or areas of study in college. Seniors, except for Lamar Dual-credit students, have no classes that day.
Volleyball will hold its Senior Night on Thursday, October 12 during their match with Duchesne. Seniors will be recognized before the varsity game around 6:00pm (depending upon how long prior games last).
The 1st grading period (9 weeks) will end Friday, October 10.
Our next All-School Mass will be Wednesday, October 18 at 9:30am in the Centennial Complex. Please join us.
A special thanks to Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Felix who organized the events for the school’s Homecoming celebrations – and to the Advancement Office for the wonderful tailgate party before the game celebrating alumni, including the eight (8) classes who held reunions. Kelly HS is indeed blessed with a wonderful, dedicated and hard-working staff.
