Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Kelly,
Happy Halloween! As you may know, in the Catholic Church Oct. 31 is actually the celebration of ‘All-Souls’ Day in which we remember all those, especially our loved ones, who have died. Nov. 1 is the Solemnity of All-Saints in which we celebrate all those who have died and been recognized as saints by the Church because of some special act(s) or a life doing God’s work.
Bishop Guillory will join us for All-Saints Mass on Wed., Nov. 1 at 9:30am. Please join us.
Both Basketball and Soccer seasons are beginning. Please remember, recognizing everyone as a unique and beautiful creation of our God does not ‘go out the window’ at an athletic event! The expectation is that students, parents, players, and coaches always treat everyone with dignity, courtesy, and respect even in the ‘heat’ of athletic competition. Please cheer loudly and positively for our players, but refrain from negative comments, cheers, etc. towards officials or opponents.
Kelly’s Choir will hold its fall Concert on Thur., Nov. 2 at 6:30pm. Come on out and hear some wonderful choral music.
Unfortunately, we have had a couple of instances this fall in which we have dealt with students and ‘vaping’. If you are not aware, vaping is an outgrowth of e-cigarettes. Usually it is done with some type of device which can be filled with a liquid and then ‘smoked’. These liquids are often flavored to appeal to a younger audience. The claim is that it is healthier or better than smoking. However, you should know:
- Vaping liquid almost always contains nicotine
- Vaping is illegal for teens
- Vaping liquids can contain remnants of marijuana or other illegal drugs
Just to be clear to all, “Kelly HS considers vaping a breach of the expected behavior of students and if a student is caught vaping or in possession of vaping paraphernalia, the violation will be treated as any other disciplinary situation.”
During the week of Nov. 6, we begin student recruitment for next year. I encourage you to speak with your friends, co-workers, and acquaintances about the benefits of Kelly HS as you have experienced them. Word-of-mouth advertising is always the most effective.
The sophomore retreat is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 15 and will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church. Sophomores should report directly to St. Jude and will be dismissed from there that afternoon. Pt. Arthur and Orange students who ride the bus, as well as any student who may need a ride, will be bused over and back to the school. More info will be provided by the Theology teacher.
Enjoy the cool, crisp fall weather. Hopefully it will stay with us for quite a while!
