Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School: MKCHS Uniforms
Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School has long been a place where values such as respect, humility, and dignity are instilled in every student. Our dress code policy reflects these values and seeks to create an environment that promotes a sense of belonging, modesty, and reverence for our faith.
The MKCHS dress code is twofold: firstly, to instill a sense of pride and respect in our appearance, reflecting the values and dignity of our Catholic high school community; and secondly, to prepare our students for future success as they transition into the workforce, where professional attire and presentation are integral to making positive impressions and achieving career goals.
Uniform Days will be Monday through Thursday, no matter what extracurricular activity the student may have that day (club, sports, etc.). On Fridays, students may wear MKCHS spirit shirts with jeans (no ripped or frayed pants), sports, club, and school sponsored sweatshirts/hoodies or they may wear their uniform. Students are expected to wear attire that covers shoulders, cleavage, and midriffs.
We want to draw your attention to specific aspects of the dress code policy.
Skirts and Shorts: Must be no shorter than three inches above the top of the knee, or students will have to change into a longer skirt or shorts. Shorts must be worn underneath skirts for modesty.
Shirts and Belts: Shirts need to be tucked in, and belts must be worn with shorts or pants. All students must wear a uniform shirt underneath any outerwear (jacket, sweatshirt, etc.)
Outerwear: Monday through Thursday only navy crewneck sweatshirts, fleece zip up jackets, and v-neck sweaters are permitted. All students must wear a uniform shirt underneath any outerwear (jacket, sweatshirt, etc.) School sponsored hoodies and jackets will only be allowed on Fridays.
Footwear: Students may wear tennis shoes, dress shoes, boots, or boat shoes on school premises. All footwear must be close-toed and have a back to ensure safety. Crocs, Uggs, Birkenstocks, slippers, sandals, slides, flip-flops, and open-toed shoes are prohibited.
Hair color: In accordance with our dress code policy, students are expected to maintain natural hair color. Unnatural hair colors like pink, blue, unnatural red, yellow, green, purples, etc., or excessively vibrant hair colors are not permitted. Maintaining natural hair colors contributes to a sense of unity and discipline within our school community.
Hairstyles: Male students are required to maintain short haircuts, with length not extending below the collar. All students should have hair out of their faces to ensure clear vision and a distraction-free learning environment. Our school's policy on hairstyles aims to promote a neat and uniform appearance among our students, which contributes to a focused and respectful learning environment.
Facial Hair: No facial hair is allowed for male students. Students need to shave on a regular basis.
Tattoos and Piercings: Tattoos must be completely covered and not visible during school hours or at school-sponsored events. Additionally, facial piercings, including but not limited to nose rings, eyebrow piercings, and lip piercings, are not permitted. In addition, male students are not to wear any ear piercings during school hours. Students are expected to adhere to these guidelines to maintain a respectful and professional learning environment.
By adhering to a stricter dress code, we aim to strengthen the atmosphere of piety, reverence, and respect on our campus. This dress code is an expression of our shared values and devotion to fostering an environment where faith, learning, and character development go hand in hand.
We want to emphasize that moving forward, there will be no laxity in the enforcement of our dress code. We are committed to ensuring that our standards are upheld consistently and fairly for the benefit of all.
Consequences: Students will be checked at the school door and will need to leave to change clothes if not appropriately dressed in uniform. Missing school will be an unexcused absence, so please come to school properly dressed in an appropriate Kelly Uniform.
Should you have any questions or require assistance in understanding the new dress code guidelines, please do not hesitate to contact our administration office for guidance.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to upholding the traditions and values that define our Catholic high school. We look forward to your continued dedication to modesty, respect, and faithfulness.
