Mark Petkovsek (‘84) joined Kelly as the Head Baseball Coach in 2017. After two seasons as pitching coach, Petkovsek took over a Kelly program that has placed runner up three seasons in a row at the Texas Association of Parochial and Private Schools (TAPPS) State Championship.
Petkovsek played three seasons under coach Cliff Gustafson for the University of Texas Longhorns, where he lettered and graduated. Upon being drafted in the first round by the Texas Rangers in 1987, Mark started a professional career that lasted 15 years. Mark played 7+ seasons in Major League Baseball for the Rangers, Pirates, Cardinals and Angels, before retiring after the 2001 season. Mark returned to The University of Texas to finish his degree, graduating in 2008.
Mark is married to Heather Crenshaw Petkovsek, also a Kelly alum from the class of 1988. They have two sons, Mark Jr. and Jack.
The Petkovsek family has been active in the community with a focus on mentoring young adults in middle school and high school. Petkovsek looks forward to continuing this mission while coaching baseball and teaching life lessons that arise in the athletic arena.
