School Board Update
By: Mandy Oliverio, Chair
The school board met on September 27. Mr. Bemis reported that he has been shopping for a used, lower mileage bus to replace one of our older buses. He also discussed low student participation in football. All members agreed that the issues with the football program must be addressed at the end of this year’s football season. Mrs. Stevens announced two new feeder school principals at St. Mary’s and St. Anthony’s. Mark Phelan reported that the Policy and Planning Committee will be reaching out to parents and faculty members for suggestions for the ever-evolving Long Range Strategic Plan. We will be emailing a short questionnaire to parents and hope to get thoughtful feedback to help generate new ideas for our school. Buildings and Grounds Chair, Al Harrington, announced the arrival of a new soccer net which should be installed soon. In conclusion, our Advancement Chair, Russ Waddill, reported that over 200 people had registered to attend the Alumni Homecoming Tailgate, and six classes would be reunited during Homecoming weekend. As of the end of September, the silent auction raised over $3,000. The Beyond the Blue and Gold lecture will be held on February 2. Merrill Lynch will be underwriting the event, and our very own acclaimed children’s author, Theresa Nelson ’66, will be the speaker. We hope to see you there!
