Student Exemptions:
Students will be able to see Mrs. Mahan or Mr. Krause during the week of December 10-14 to request exemptions. Students must meet the criteria from the handbook below to qualify for an exemption. Please contact Mr. Krause with any questions or concerns. Please make sure service hours and notes for absences are up to date.
EXAMS
Midterm and final exams will be given. The exam grade will count as 20% of the semester grade. Exams are usually scheduled during the last four days of the semester (senior exams in the spring semester are usually one week earlier). During exam days, students typically have the privilege of being required to be present only during an actual exam. The following rules will usually be in place during the exam days;
- Exam ‘sessions’ are 90 minutes.
- Students may not be in the building during exam sessions unless they are in an exam or in the ‘study room’.
- Usually, students may leave campus when not involved with an exam. Dress code regulations will apply.
- Any fees, fines, equipment owed must be paid before students may exempt exams.
- The actual exam schedule will be announced about 2 weeks before the exams begin. Rules will also be posted and announced.
- Students may be exempt from some exams. There are two ways to exempt an exam.
The academic/absence exemption policy is as follows:
All exemptions must be approved by both the individual teacher and administration. Exemptions are not automatic. The student may exempt one exam for academic reasons per semester. To even be considered for exemption, the student must have a 90 average or above in the class. If it is a semester course, the student must have a 90 or above for each quarter. To be considered for exemption from a year long course, the student must have a 90 average for the semester.
- The student is not eligible to exempt with more than 3 excused absences during the semester for which the exemption is requested.
- The student cannot have an unexcused absence, External Suspension, or In-School Suspension on his or her record for the semester in which the exemption is requested.
- The student may not have more than three (3) tardies to school (demerits are assigned for each tardy after two) during either quarter for the semester in which the exemption is requested.
- The student must have completed all service hour requirements in order to exempt an exam.
- There will be no exemptions granted if a monetary balance (tuition or fees) is due to the school.
The discipline/dress code exemption policy is as follows:
All exemptions must be approved by both the individual teacher and administration.. Exemptions are not automatic. The student may exempt one exam (for either a semester or year-long course) per semester using this policy. The student has received no discipline or dress code demerits for the semester in which the exemption is requested.
- The course average for the exempted exam must be 75 or higher. In a semester class, the student must have a 75 or higher for each quarter. In a year long course, the student must have a 75 average for the semester.
- The student is not eligible to exempt with more than 3 excused absences during the semester for which the exemption is requested.
- The student cannot have an unexcused absence, External Suspension, or In-School (ISS) Suspension on his or her record for the semester in which the exemption is requested.
Demerit Forgiveness Policy:
A student who has been assigned one demerit for a dress or behavior infraction may choose to “work off” the demerit(s) in order to regain an exam exemption. It is the student’s responsibility to set up the date, time and project with the Assistant Principal. The service project must take at least one hour to complete, must be done before or after school hours, may be done anytime during the semester, and must be approved by the assistant principal before the time is served. The service project option may only be done once a quarter. Documentation of the work performed must be given to the assistant principal no later than a week before the first day of final exams for that semester.
A student’s disciplinary record, including the number of demerits assigned, may be accessed by the parent or student at anytime using Portal.
